Military

I was proud to be a sponsor of “AN ACT CONCERNING THE PLACEMENT OF A GOLD STAR FAMILY MEMORIAL MONUMENT ON THE STATE CAPITOL GROUND”

The United States has numerous memorials and monuments giving honor to the patriots who have sacrificed and given their lives for our freedom and paying tribute to those who have faithfully served in the United States Armed Forces since the founding of our republic. The Gold Star Family Memorial Monument honors those families who have sacrificed freedom, and illustrates that the United States
citizens in every community are willing to meet the call of duty.

I supported AN ACT to EXTEND THE EXPIRATION DATE FOR A DRIVER’S LICENSE BELONGING TO A MILITARY MEMBER.

I was proud to be the sponsor of a HOUSE RESOLUTION HONORING THE 308TH TITAN II STRATEGIC MISSILE WING AND THE RESPONSE TO THE 1980 MISSILE EXPLOSION AT DAMASCUS, ARKANSAS.

On September 19, 1980, the 308th Titan II Strategic Missile Wing experienced a day none of them will ever forget, in which several heroic airmen and their commanders tried to prevent a nuclear explosion near Damascus, Arkansas, evacuated their comrades, and warned nearby residents to flee the area.

Roads and Highways

TO ESTABLISH A SYSTEM FOR THE REMOVAL OF TIRE DEBRIS ON STATE HIGHWAYS. Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department shall develop and implement a means to provide highway assistance to reduce delay and improve safety for motor vehicle drivers by removing tire debris from a state highway.

Economic Development by improving roads and highways
I was proud to be a sponsor a HOUSE RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING THE EXPANSION OF UNITED STATES ROUTE 49 NORTH-SOUTH CORRIDOR TO IMPROVE ACCESSIBILITY AND CREATE ECONOMIC PROSPERITY.
Arkansas is richly endowed with natural resources and provides limitless opportunities for both commercial and recreational activities; and the overall economic viability of the state has been directly impacted by the state and federal commitment to provide accessibility to specific areas with improved roads and highways. Improving road and highway accessibility throughout Arkansas will not only serve to create economic prosperity for the Arkansas communities that extend along the corridor, but also will contribute to the overall economic prosperity of the entire state.

Protecting Property Rights and Stopping Puppy Mills
AN ACT TO CREATE AN OFFENSE FOR SALE OF DOGS OR CATS ON PROPERTY WITHOUT OWNER’S WRITTEN PERMISSION; TO PROTECT CONSUMERS AND ANIMALS FROM PUPPY AND KITTEN MILLS.

It is unlawful for a person to sell, trade, or offer for purchase
a dog or cat, or both, on the private property of another person without first securing the permission of the owner of the private property.

Ensure that the citizens of Arkansas have additional information regarding the persons who sell dogs or cats, or both, within the State of Arkansas. The seller needs to provide a certificate of good health from a licensed veterinarian for the dog or cat being sold if requested by the consumer.

DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES WAITING LIST
Act 50 signed into law in 2017 will start to direct unused tobacco settlement money to reduce developmental disabilities waitlist. There have been roughly 3,000 families on Arkansas’ developmental disabilities waitlist. Providing home- or community-based care is less expensive than institutional care. The mother of a 19-year-old who began receiving assistance at home in October because of the program told commissioners that the aid has changed their lives. They were on the list for eight years. These families work hard at their jobs and are trying to raise their special-needs child all at the same time. The waiver will allow these parents to provide as many opportunities as possible for their children, so the whole family can experience more independent and balanced lives. It would allow them to go to work and not have to “stress every summer and every break that we don’t have anyone to watch her.” For one family, finding a babysitter is almost impossible. “When you have a child that’s on oxygen and has seizures it’s real hard to find caregivers that won’t charge $40 an hour,”
